Parksville SPCA high kill stats don't support Mr. Daniell's statements *LINK*

The Parksville/Qualicum Branch of the SPCA had high kill statistics last year. These stats are taken directly from their newsletter which they handed out to the public.

Their own records show that they euthanized 26 dogs for aggression, and 3 because they were sick, injured, or "other." This is out of a total of 307 dogs brought in.

Their records show that they euthanized 68 cats for aggression, and 63 cats for being injured or ill, and 1 cat for "other," bringing the total of euthanized cats at one small branch, in one 10 month period, to 132 cats.

In ten months, they took in 309 cats, and killed 132 of them.

Lest you think that all the "aggressive cats" were feral, I must say that I met some of these cats, and they were anything but feral. They were however, and in my opinion, suffering considerable distress, from being kept 23 1/2 hours a day in tiny cages.

Unless the Parksville SPCA is killing much fewer animals, I must think that Mr. Daniell is mistaken in his statement re the reasons the SPCA performs "euthanasia".

I don't agree that the SPCA's policies are the same as true no-kill "facilities" are. Mr Daniell made his statements in the Sun just 1 1/2 months after the statistics for the Parksville SPCA for 2007 were known. I don't think the CEO of an animal welfare organization should be so mistaken about the most critical issue of all, which is euthanasia, and I would like to see him correct his statement.
