In Response To: The Life of a Krabloonik sled dog is 'no joy ride' *LINK* *PIC* (Terry Cumming)

My name is Hopeless. I have been tethered by a five-foot chain my entire life. My mother’s name was Despair, and my father is called Forgotten.

We are sled dogs at Krabloonik in Snowmass Village, Colorado.

Unless I am pulling you, I am chained every day of the year, 24 hours a day. When the winter months finally come, I am occasionally allowed to take you, the Krabloonik customer, on a "joy ride" to Krabloonik Restaurant. While you dine, I will wait for you outside, and when you go home I will, once again, be chained up and left to bear the harsh winter night alone. I am not a working dog, I am a prisoner. In the summer my muscles become weak from lack of exercise and I often develop sores on my body from lying on my bed of rocks and wood. I get very hot and thirsty and go for long periods of time without access to fresh, clean water. I have never had the benefit of feeling the cool grass on my paws or known what it is like to be dry when it is wet outside. Although I live in one of the most beautiful places on earth, I never get to go for a walk, never go swimming, never get treats or pats on the head, never get to run freely and don't know why people who see me constantly pass me by.

My family lives tied to chains all around me. We howl in hopes that one day someone will come to cut the chains that are around our necks. Unless someone saves me, I will forever live in fear of being shot in the head by my owner and thrown in a pile of feces - possibly while I'm still alive. I am only driven by the hope that I will one day be free. When you come to see me I try to tell you with my eyes to please take the chains off and take my sadness away. I will cry out to you and beg you with all my heart to please fight for all of us. I will not lose hope as the years go by and I will wait for you! I hear my father’s cry and it is called Why!
