SURREY SPCA APPLIES TO DESTROY THE HARRIS PIT BULLS *LINK* *PIC*

As the City of Surrey's dog control agency, the BC SPCA's Surrey Branch applies for court orders to kill dogs the City and/or the SPCA have deemed dangerous.

On July 23rd, the Surrey SPCA applied to kill Ed Chase's dog 'Raymond' without even testing him, and on August 18th it applied to kill the Harris Pit Bulls, one of which may be a puppy.

If one is a puppy would the BC SPCA apply to kill a it? How often has the BC SPCA applied to the courts to kill dogs in the decades it has been the dog-catcher for the City of Surrey? Probably only an FOI application would reveal that.

Why does the BC SPCA have contracts to protect the public from dogs when its mandate is to protect dogs from the public? Why isn't the BC SPCA speaking for these dogs? Who is the SPCA speaking for? What are the possible ethical conflicts?

Read the SPCA's application to destroy the Harris Pit Bulls. Note: the signer, Phil Greene, is a long-time BC SPCA employee, not a City of Surrey employee. It is the BC SPCA which is paid by the City, and the BC SPCA which pays Phil Greene.
